To support Sodexo’s global strategy as a sustainable food service and valued experiences company, specifically supporting our climate ambition, the Climate Director leads the climate strategy aligned with the Net Zero 2040 goals and provides technical expertise with regards to Sodexo’s climate impacts and the rising expectations of stakeholders.

The Climate Director will:

  • manage, implement, coordinate & track the progress of the Net Zero 2040 Strategic Plan, on Group level with the support of the regions
  • bring a strong expertise in climate risks & impacts, understanding how to convert these into reduction levers
  • bring knowledge of emissions calculation, methodology and international standards.
  • bring expertise on Energy solutions (sourcing and on-site efficiency), embedding these in our activities on Food services & Facility Management business.
  • contribute to meeting the clients requirements in terms of on-site carbon footprint calculation & support in action plan definition, in support of the CSR country or regional leads (mostly for Global Strategic Accounts)
  • be in charge of the continuous accuracy of the SBTi validation of our Net Zero 2040 commitments.
  • will prepare any content related to Sodexo’s climate ambition (positioning, targets, rationale…) for internal and external communication.

​​​​​RESPONSIBILITIES:

Climate strategy

  • The Climate Director develops the climate strategy, aligned with Net Zero 2040 goals, manage the Climate team and its expertise.
  • The Climate Director will make sure to integrate climate considerations into company operations and decision-making while considering other nature & social impact, ensuring they are supporting a holistic view.
  • The Climate Director ensures that the Sodexo climate-related strategy is aligned with standards and regulations (e.g. regional regulations &/or international coalitions).
  • The Climate Director will identify, evaluate and recommend Carbon reduction &/or compensation (incl. credits solutions when appropriate).
  • The Climate Director will contribute to the next sustainability roadmap beyond 2025, making sure that the climate impact is fully part of it.
  • He will review and update the Climate KPI set.

Carbon emission calculation and methodologies

  • The Climate Director will oversee the Carbon emission calculation methodology & tools (TRAACE) management & improvement according to standards, making sure the commitments are met and client expectations are covered.
  • He will provide methodology expertise for all major Sodexo services around Food services and Facility Management.
  • Evaluate the eco-labelling solutions and the potential use of external partner methodology, such as Klimato and Eaternety.
  • Manage & challenge the Climate team to provide insightful, quantitative and qualitative reporting.

Climate Expertise Management & Sharing:

  • Contribute to Sodexo’s transformation by embedding climate considerations in functions (supply chain, food platform, FM platform) and operations.
  • Contribute to key sustainability strategic initiatives: FM Energy workstream, kitchen for the future project, on site carbon module calculation…
  • Collaborate with Innovation teams on new technologies to reduce environmental impacts.
  • Cultivate and manage external collaborations with NGOs and expert consultancies around climate change.
  • Participate in conferences and coalitions not only to get insights from the industry on climate change but also to advocate on Sodexo’s leading position on this topic.

Support to Business Operations

  • Collaborate with the global Sustainability team members to support them in operational solutions.
  • Support the regional roadmaps to achieve group commitments on climate, using the Carbon Trajectory Tool.
  • Deliver expertise trainings at various levels (incl. train the trainers), and contribute to the climate Learning & Development program with HR.
  • Support Global Strategic Accounts ad-hoc carbon reporting requests & define the right collaboration process.

Climate Change Promotion

  • Report on climate initiative progress to executive leadership.
  • Elaborate key messages and communication plans with the Communication team to raise both internal and external awareness on climate performance and progress.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability Performance Director to provide climate-related information for rating agency: CDP, Moody’s….

PROFILE:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Sustainability, Climate science, Environmental science or similar.
  • 10 + years of relevant professional experience, with success in the areas of climate & business strategy, reporting & operational implementation.
  • Experience in food value chain and/or facilities management highly desirable.
  • Fluent in English. French skills are a plus.

Softskills:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with global and diverse teams.
  • Ability to train non-technical stakeholders to apply climate actions to operational environments.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multi-stakeholder environment.

Hardskills:

  • Expertise in GHG emissions scopes and detailed understanding of GHG accounting and reporting principles, including the GHG Protocol, SBTi guidelines, regulatory framework in three key areas (France, UK, USA) and other international standards.
  • Expertise in Energy & other solutions to reduce carbon emissions.
  • Strong ability to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative data and translate into actionable information.
  • Effective project management and problem-solving skills, solution driven.

OTHER INFORMATION :

  • The position will ideally be based in Issy-les-Moulineaux (near Paris, France).
  • Some travel will be expected.
